When was your company established?
Founded in 1997, Apptix began as the software and engineering division of TeleComputing ASA, an international leader of outsourced application services based in Norway. In 2002, Apptix was spun off as an independent company based in the United States, with headquarters in Herndon, Virginia.

What is the origin of your company name?
The original parent company, TeleComputing ASA, named Apptix.

Who owns your company?
Apptix is publicly traded on the Oslo Stock Exchange and governed by a Board of Trustees.

What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office?
Apptix is headquartered in Herndon, so all executive, sales, marketing, finance, HR, and second-tier customer service activities are based here. Apptix also has an office in Florida that handles initial customer service calls and an operations team in Texas that oversees our data centers.

Who are your primary customers?
In the beginning, most Apptix customers were very small businesses with less than ten users.  As more and larger companies move toward hosted, or cloud-based, business communication services, however, Apptix customer demographics are shifting toward midmarket and enterprise-level organizations. Apptix specifically targets 100+-employee businesses in the health care, legal, and financial industries.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Apptix is the largest provider of hosted business communication services, trusted by more than 20,000 customers across the globe. Its extensive product portfolio includes email, security, archiving & compliance, VoIP, SharePoint, Web conferencing, and Secure IM with Presence offered a-la-carte or as integrated solutions (e.g. Unified Communications). What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?
Fairfax County is a great location for Apptix to grow. The technology corridor features excellent services and infrastructure. As a high-tech hub, there is a readily available pool of extremely well qualified potential employees. Also, the office in Herndon, right off the Dulles Toll Road and Route 28, means an easy commute for the ~80 onsite employees.

Where do you see your business in five to 10 years?
As more and larger companies move to the cloud and managed hosting to reduce costs and increase productivity, Apptix will release new products faster with more emphasis on mobility and efficiency. Apptix will sustain its position as a market leader in hosted business communication services for midmarket and enterprise organizations, as it continues moving from a messaging company into a full-service productivity solutions company with anywhere, any place, any time access, via any device. Apptix is poised for growth especially in the health care, legal, and financial vertical markets.
