Cobham Defense Systems formed in 1984 as a division of Cobham Plc, which was established in 1934.

What is the origin of your company name?
Sir Alan Cobham, an innovative aviation pioneer, worked tirelessly to make flying popular with his own personal dream that “one day there would be a landing ground in every major town.”  Over the past 75 years, Cobham has grown into a leading provider of products and solutions for the aerospace and defense industry across the globe.

Who owns your company?
Cobham Defense Systems is a division of Cobham Plc, which is a publicly traded company incorporated in the United Kingdom.

What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office?
The home of Cobham Defense Systems’ corporate headquarters, Fairfax County is the international hub for our four strategic business units – Cobham Antenna Systems, Cobham Defense Communications, Cobham Analytic Solutions, and Cobham Sensor Systems – which have locations in the U.S., U.K. Mexico, Sweden, and Finland.

Who are your primary customers?
Our ultimate customer is the warfighter, whom we serve by partnering with prime contractors, aviation companies, parts suppliers and NATO member armed forces.

While we are a global company, more than half of Cobham Defense Systems’ annual revenue comes from the U.S. market.  Therefore, Fairfax County is an ideal location because we can be close to our industry partners and our U.S. Military customers. Our proximity to Washington Dulles International Airport facilitates our national and international travel requirements.  Additionally, Fairfax County has excellent schools, a strong local economy, and a highly educated workforce, which add up to good quality of life and business for our employees.
