When was your company established?
Invertix Corporation was co-founded in 1999 by Art Hurtado, chairman and CEO, to provide innovative products and tools for mobile collaboration in the telecommunications and wireless sectors. Invertix was one of the first companies to provide an SMS solution – which is the basis of what we now know as “texting.” This product, mNetTM for Mobility Networking, is still in use today.
What is the origin of your company name?
Most simply stated, Invertix is about inverted thinking. We think and act differently than our counterparts operating well outside of the proverbial box. We have a strong culture of innovation, and yes we do know what that really means and have processes and methodologies to stand behind it.
Who owns your company?
Invertix is a private, closely held company where the majority of interest is with current management.
What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office?
Our Tysons Corner office is home to both our corporate headquarters and key programs. Our more than 18,000 square feet of class A office space that houses our Systems Innovation Lab (iSIL) and other specialized facilities. The iSIL is one of the labs that we positioned around the region and country that are connected by our private development cloud and focused on developing hardware- and software-based solutions. We also have operations in Alexandria, Va.; Annapolis Junction, Md.; Tampa, Fla.; and Las Cruces, N.M. where we partner closely with the Physical Sciences Laboratory of New Mexico State University.
Who are your primary customers?
Our primary customer is the U.S. government; namely the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, members of the intelligence community, and the defense research and development community.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Invertix is proud of its culture and the ability to do things differently. What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?
Without question, Invertix benefits from our headquarters being located in Fairfax County. The concentration of relevant talent in this area is tremendous. We also know that many of our current and potential customers and teammates are in close proximity. Fairfax County presents wonderful opportunities to explore new ideas and to support the professional development of our workforce. We encourage everyone in the company to be active in the communities in which they live and work. We are fortunate that the Fairfax community has welcomed several of our company leaders to their boards and committees. This form of giving back allows us to strengthen existing relationships and forge new ones.
Where do you see your business in five to 10 years?
We are working aggressively to achieve Vision 2015 and continue to grow very quickly. Vision 2015 was launched at the beginning of 2011 and outlines financial, workforce, customer and technology oriented targets. To get where you want to go it is always helpful to know the destination. We acknowledge that the way we get there will require agility, creativity and much hard work.
