What is the origin of your company name?
OCAS – stands for Obstacle Collision Avoidance System – it is also the name of our primary product.

Who owns your company?
OCAS is a wholly owned subsidiary of OCAS AS, a Norwegian based company out of Oslo.

What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office?
We are the North American headquarters and operating arm of OCAS AS.

Who are your primary customers?
Renewable Energy Wind Developers and Transmission and Distribution Utility Companies.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
OCAS is the developer of the first and only Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tested and approved audio visual warning system known as the Obstacle Collision Avoidance System. The solution is ground based and provides both visual and audio warnings to low flying aircraft when in dangerous proximity to an air obstacle such as a power line, communications tower or wind turbine. Another main advantage of OCAS is that it keeps the standard strobe lights turned off and only activates them when necessary, thus leaving the night sky free of light pollution.

What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?
Convenience to D.C. and the various regulators required to work with when implementing OCAS. Also the Tysons/Vienna area is a good community with very good schools.

Where do you see your business in five to 10 years? We expect to grow the company significantly. We expect that OCAS will become an accepted safety standard in reducing the number of aviation accidents as a result of obstruction collisions. We also expect that OCAS will become an accepted standard in the Wind Energy Industry as more and more communities become aware of the light pollution and view shed issues associated with wind farm lighting.
