Project Performance Corporation

When was your company established?
Project Performance Corporation (PPC) was founded in 1991. PPC became the North American arm of the UK-based AEA group in 2008.

What is the origin of your company name?
Our name stresses our corporate mission, which is to design, build and implement solutions that simplify complex business problems. As the “Performance” in our name implies, we don’t just install technology tools; we create solutions based on a holistic view of the clients’ needs.

Who owns your company?
AEA, a world leading energy and climate change consultancy, acquired PPC in 2008. AEA helps the public and private sectors respond to environmental challenges and opportunities created by worldwide drivers – climate reduction, sustainability, energy and climate change, air and water quality, resource efficiency, sustainable transport, innovation and knowledge transfer, and risk management and due diligence.

What is your main business focus?
We provide high-end information technology-based solutions, in a disciplined and measurable management context. Our core competencies are in environmental sustainability; energy and transportation security; health care; effective government, international and domestic finance issues; systems engineering and infrastructure; project management; enterprise solutions; security and privacy solutions; business technology solutions; and IT strategy consulting. PPC’s mission is to help people and organizations perform at their best.

Who are your primary customers?
Our client list includes government agencies, Fortune 100 firms and international financial and insurance organizations. Government clients include the departments of Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, Labor, Transportation and Treasury. Our non-U.S. government clients include pharmaceutical and retail firms, global insurance companies, the government of Bermuda, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Fannie Mae Foundation. AEA is the leading provider of advisory services to the UK Government and work extensively with the EU and major private sector organizations.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
Over its 19-year history, PPC has experienced steady growth in its revenue, size and customer base because quality standards drive every project for every client. Our size and our highly disciplined approach make us unique in our ability to give clients individualized, constant attention that is sometimes hard to get with very large businesses. Our four knowledge areas (Energy/Environment, Infrastructure, Information Management, and Solutions Development & Strategy) serve as centers of excellence for a broad range of IT and management services. The areas constantly draw upon each other’s expertise and resources to give clients the highest possible quality of support. In 2008, AEA was voted by environmental consultants across the UK as Best Consultancy for Climate Change and Renewables for the third year; and AEA experts won a Nobel Peace Prize through their work with the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Where do you see your company in five years?
We love this question! On one of the walls outside the main conference room of our headquarters building in Tysons Corner are stenciled the words: “By 2012, Project Performance Corporation will become one of the top 75 management and information technology consulting firms in the world.” Our enduring objective will be to continue to help organizations and people operate more productively and more efficiently by guiding them toward best management practices and the latest and best technology solutions.

How many employees do you have?
Combined with AEA, we have approximately 1,000 employees.

What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?
We can be face-to-face with our government clients around the Washington, D.C. area in less than half an hour. Aside from the obvious business benefits of being in “Silicon Valley East,” we enjoy the “look and feel” (as we say in the IT business) of Tysons Corner, with its green spaces and many amenities. In fact, we like being here so much we participate in the “Adopt-a-Highway” program. We have some cherished photos of our CEO, Mike Nigro, in his orange safety vest and work gloves, proudly spearing trash along Route 123. We support such Fairfax-based non-profit and charitable groups as the Newton Marasco Foundation, Homestretch and Our Daily Bread. We have 13 employees active with Leadership Fairfax.
