When was your company established?
In April of 1993, Time Warner Communications formed as a joint venture between US West and Time Warner to deliver residential cable telephony.  In July of 1998, Time Warner Telecom separates from Time Warner Cable.  And in March of 2008, the Time Warner Telecom became tw telecom.

What is the origin of your company name?
To fully separate from the Time Warner brand, a new name for the company was launched.  We became tw telecom.  This name reflects the company’s focus on delivering customer experience, product innovation and financial and operating performance that is industry-leading.  But we wanted to be able to take a slight look back at the qualities of Time Warner Telecom and be mindful of our company’s roots.

What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office?
tw telecom is the leading provider of managed services, including Business Ethernet, converged and IP VPN solutions to enterprises across the country and globally. This is largely due to our unique fiber infrastructure and national /local sales and support teams located in or near 75 major metropolitan markets. We are able to connect customers’ communications services across the Washington D.C. metro area, throughout the country and even around the world with this infrastructure. Therefore, we can provide customers the“edge” they need to be competitive in their marketplace and to better serve their customers. When enterprises and large organizations achieve improved business efficiencies, it is a ‘win-win’ for them and their customers.

We believe the most significant economic driver today is the increasing importance of the network. Sure, it’s complex and offers challenges for enterprises, but the network enables vast amounts of new and improved applications…and in so doing, it offers innovation and business metric efficiencies that are only beginning to be tapped. For instance, the growing use of enterprise software applications, the requirement to connect with external data centers for storage and business continuity/disaster recovery, and the increased desire to utilize the “cloud” for effective next generation IT applications and solutions all demand a leading-edge network strategy. tw telecom’s innovative network solutions meet that challenge and give our customers a competitive edge.

Who are your primary customers?
Our portfolio provides solutions to enterprise customers, ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 enterprises, city, state and federal government entities, as well as carriers and other communication service providers.

We serve both business enterprise and carrier customers. Our enterprise customers include businesses that are data and IT intensive and are primarily in financial services, technology and scientific, health care, professional services industries and public sector entities. Our carrier customers include ILECs, CLECs, wireless communications companies and Internet service providers (“ISPs”).
