United States-Israel HLS Technologies Conference and B2B
(Business to Business) Meetings
between Israeli and U.S. Companies
January 16-18, 2007
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and the Israeli Export Institute and International Cooperation Institute (IEI) will host leading Israeli homeland security companies in January 2007, at a conference designed to showcase Israeli technologies and the opportunities for partnering with US systems integrators, contractors, investors, and other prospective partners. Fairfax County is currently home to such HLS companies as Verint, Nice, Check-Point, Camero, Mate, Supercom, Beyond Security, Vigilon and others. Leading Israeli defense and security companies such as Elbit, IAI, Raphael and others, also have offices in nearby Washington DC.
This matchmaking conference will provide both the Israeli and US companies with the unique opportunity to discuss future trends in homeland security technologies, the war on terrorism, and partnership and collaboration opportunities. This three day event will be held at the Virginia’s Center for Innovation Technology in Herndon, Virginia and will be one of the premier business events of 2007.
Israel's Homeland Security Industry
For over 20 years, Israel has gained respect and the reputation for an incredible number of innovations and technologies in IT, telecomm, medical and bio-sciences. Major US (and European) technology companies like IBM, Intel, HP, Motorola, Cisco, Microsoft and others, have established their strongest development centers in Israel, gaining great value and superb return on their investments. Successes in the software, communications and life sciences have placed Israel as number three (behind the US and Canada) in the number of NASDAQ IPOs towards the late nineties. In addition, many Israeli companies have been acquired by major US (and other) companies over the past few years (just in the past three (3) months, we can note three Mega acquisitions: Warren Buffet acquired Iskar Industries for $4B; HP Acquired Mercury Interactive for $4.5B and SanDisk acquired M-Systems for $1.5B).
Facing the necessities of its own homeland security issues, Israelis have been engaged in homeland security activities for many years. Israeli entrepreneurs have been addressing the challenges posed to them by outside forces, by employing their military and security backgrounds to present unique and innovative technologies to address HLS challenges. Israel's long history of government spending on the war on terror has produced standards, methodologies and concepts that are only now emerging around the world. Many Israeli HLS start-ups have benefited from generous government incentive programs, and have resulted in the establishment of well known defense, space and aviation companies such as the Israel Aircraft Industry (IAI), Elbit, El-Op, Tadiran Communications, Elisra, Elta, Rafael and others.
Here are some HLS categories and areas of interest to consider:
- Intelligence detection and tracking systems
- Explosives/chemical/biological detection systems
- Surveillance/border, Access control/biometrics and perimeter security systems
- Bio-terror: detection, diagnostics, treatment
- Training and simulation systems
- Management, monitoring and control systems
- Information Technology (IT) security
- Post-terror/disaster recovery, emergency response and damage control
- Solutions from other (business) sectors with value to HLS
- Miscellaneous homeland security technologies
The U.S. homeland security market
After a few years of preparations, setting-up and restructuring various government organizations, establishing the Department of Homeland Security, the US homeland security market is entering a more dynamic and active stage of implementing policies and procedures and applying real solutions to various needs. From the protection of sensitive facilities, to the tracking and management of security and emergency events, to the monitoring of IT related risks and much, much more. Federal, State and local government all over the country are giving high-priority to HLS related issues and activities. Recognizing that this is the perfect time for the collaboration between Israeli and US companies, IEI and FCEDA will target companies with key technologies and introduce them to their U.S. counterparts.
Many US companies already have specific contracts and projects and can benefit from partnership, knowledge sharing, technologies, products and services provided by other companies with a specific niche and focus.
