Fairfax County's major residential communities offer a broad spectrum of choices for the home-buyer or renter.

Towns located within Fairfax County (such as Clifton, Herndon and Vienna) offer a blend of old and new, with housing in and around historical and small urban areas. Planned residential communities offer housing with up-to-date amenities. Upscale residences can be found throughout the county.

Annandale: Located just inside the Capital Beltway, this family oriented community offers a variety of home styles, convenient shopping, parks, playgrounds, tennis courts and restaurants. Map of Annandale

Baileys Crossroads: Also situated inside the Capital Beltway, Baileys Crossroads was once the winter quarters of Hachaliah Bailey's (later the Barnum and Bailey) circus. Burke: Situated in southwestern Fairfax County 20 miles from Washington, D.C., this community features numerous wooded lots, attractive homes and close proximity to schools, shopping and parks. Map of Burke

Centreville: Located close to Washington Dulles International Airport, Ellanor C. Lawrence Park and Fair Oaks Mall, Centreville offers a blend of the old and the new with an historic district, modern homes, new shopping areas and a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Map of Centreville

Town of Clifton: Located in the southwestern portion of the county, tiny Clifton is a quaint community featuring beautiful homes on large lots and a small historic town center. Map of Clifton

Fairfax Station: This secluded community is located east of Clifton near Burke Lake Park in an area featuring rolling hills and wooded countryside. It includes many new subdivisions with custom-designed homes. Map of Fairfax Station

Fort Belvoir: Close to several parks, marinas and the Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge, this community of civilian and military residents is centered around Fort Belvoir (U.S. Army), 15 miles south of Washington, D.C. Map of Fort Belvoir

Great Falls: An area of large homes and lots, Great Falls is located along the Potomac River, next to scenic Great Falls National Park and near Tysons Corner. It includes wooded lots, winding roads, riding trails, an equestrian center, country clubs and a small village center with restaurants and shopping. Map of Great Falls

Huntington: An area of both older and newer homes just south of the Capital Beltway in southern Fairfax County. Convenient to the Metro, Alexandria, Route One and the Potomac River. Map of Huntington

Town of Herndon: Located along the Dulles Toll Road, this community includes an historic town center with older homes as well as newer homes and commercial developments. Map of Herndon

McLean: Located near Tysons Corner and Great Falls and only eight miles from Washington, D.C., McLean features large, custom-designed homes, multi-million dollar estates and smaller, more traditional homes. Mount Vernon: Overlooking the Potomac River, near George Washington's estate and other tourist attractions, this scenic community includes wooded older neighborhoods and a bike path that runs north to Washington, D.C. Map of Mount Vernon

Oakton: Oakton, which features a variety of housing, is located only 13 miles west of Washington, D.C., and is close to shopping, I-66 and the Vienna Metro station. Map of Oakton

Reston: One of the nation's best known planned communities, this lush, wooded area is located along the Dulles Toll Road. It features a broad variety of housing, extensive retail centers, trails, lakes, golf courses and other recreational facilities. Map of Reston

Tysons Corner: The "downtown" of Fairfax County, this urban area near the Dulles Toll Road, Capital Beltway and I-66 features high-rise apartments, condominiums and townhouses conveniently located among shopping malls and office centers. Map of Tysons Corner

Town of Vienna: This residential community located near Tysons Corner boasts a small-town atmosphere, its own central business district and convenient access to Washington, D.C. via the Vienna Metro station.
