The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on June 22 appointed Arthur E. (Bud) Morrissette IV to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) Commission. He will serve a four-year term on the Commission, which is the governing body of the FCEDA (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org), which promotes Fairfax County as a business location. Mr. Morrissette replaces Michael Horwatt, who served 26 years on the Commission, including many years as vice chairman.
Mr. Morrissette is president of Interstate Relocation Services and Interstate International, which are part of the Interstate Group of companies, with worldwide headquarters in Springfield, Virginia. His grandfather founded the company in 1943. The global enterprise provides moving and storage, transportation, relocation management, and supply chain solutions for individual, corporate, defense and government customers.
“As someone who grew up in Fairfax County and created jobs here, I am excited to be part of the county’s economic development program that builds the commercial tax base and helps fund the excellent public services that make the county so attractive to employers and employees,” Mr. Morrissette said.
“We are delighted to have Bud on the Commission,” said Steven L. Davis, chairman of the FCEDA Commission. “He is a longtime member of the business community here and understands the value of the FCEDA’s work to promote Fairfax County as one of the great business locations in the nation and world.”
Mr. Morrissette is a native of Washington, D.C. He graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School in Fairfax County, and continued his studies in business administration at Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University. He resides in Oakton and has three children.
He has received several awards for his community involvement. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Times Community Newspapers; has received the Herb Hunter Citizen of the Year award from the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce; and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He serves in advisory and board of director capacities for several organizations including the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of Washington and George Mason University.
