Fairfax County businessman Mark Lowham appointed to FCEDA Commission

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, Monday, December 21, 2009 -

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on December 7 appointed Mark Lowham to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) Commission. He will serve a four-year term on the Commission, which is the governing body of the FCEDA, which promotes Fairfax County as a business location. Mr. Lowham replaces the late Ann Rodriguez.

Mr. Lowham is executive vice president of the West*Group, a full-service real estate development, construction, brokerage, and management organization based in McLean, Virginia. He has been affiliated with West*Group since 1989.  He was a co-founder and principal of The Meridian Group based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and later joined West*Group to lead its business development efforts.

“I am excited to be part of an organization that works to build Fairfax County’s commercial tax base, because that supports schools, transportation, and other vital public services which make the county so attractive,” Mr. Lowham said.

“We are thrilled to have Mark on the Commission,” said Stephen L. Davis, chairman of the FCEDA. “He is a longtime member of the business community here and understands the value of the FCEDA’s work in building the tax base, which the Board of Supervisors uses to fund programs and services.”

Mr. Lowham is a member of the Board of Visitors of Fairfax-based George Mason University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Inova Foundation, the Medical Care for Children Partnership and the Executive Committee of CharityWorks.  He is chairman-elect of Inova Health System’s Life with Cancer program.

He previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of Wolf Trap Associates, the Harry Byrd School of Business at Shenandoah University and the YMCA of Greater Washington. He also is a former chairman of the Board of Trustees of Phillips Programs for Children and Families in Annandale.

Mr. Lowham graduated from Stanford University with a degree in economics in 1985, and received a master’s degree in business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1989. He lives in McLean with his partner, Dr. Joseph Ruzzo, and their two children.
