Fairfax County, Virginia USA, Tuesday, December 29, 2009 -
Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, is serving as chairman of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra’s (FSO, www.fairfaxsymphony.org) 2010 Valentine Pops Gala Committee.
“Amore! An Evening of Italian Love Songs,” scheduled for February 5 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner, is the FSO’s major fund-raising event of the year. It will feature a large silent auction of restaurant and vacation packages and sports memorabilia, then vocal performances by tenor Robert Petillo and soprano Jeanine Thames singing some of Italy’s most romantic ballads and arias accompanied by members of the orchestra. Well-known Washington TV journalist Doug McKelway will emcee the evening.
“The 2010 Valentine Pops Gala will be the most exciting yet and I have been privileged to help organize it,” Gordon said. “A spectacular meal, a silent auction with great treasures, and a performance by the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and two soloists, all with the theme ‘Amore!’ What could be a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day?”
The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra has emerged over the years as one of the finest regional orchestras in the U.S. and is hailed as "the pride of Fairfax County." It is supported in part by grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the Arts Council of Fairfax County, and the County of Fairfax, but also depends on support from the business community and residents.
