During the third quarter of 2013, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) provided services and resources to 29 businesses that are adding more than 600 jobs in Fairfax County. Most of these businesses are in the information technology and professional services sectors, and seven are foreign-based firms using a Fairfax County location to expand in North America.

“Fairfax County’s strengths in IT and professional services continue to be a draw for companies from the United States and around the world to locate and expand here, and that creates more jobs that strengthen and diversify our economic base and support the quality of life we enjoy here,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. He said that while the quarterly numbers are lower than historical trends for Fairfax County, they are still positive and are indicators of the county’s underlying economic strength.

One of the most prominent announcements came from Appian, which develops business process software, and is adding 90 jobs to the county economy. Other businesses that are creating jobs in Fairfax County:

  • comScore, an Internet research outfit, adding 75 jobs;
  • Delex Systems, an IT, program management and research firm, adding 61 jobs;
  • eKuber Ventures, which provides IT and management consulting services, adding 25 jobs; and,
  • Tatum, a professional services firm based in the Netherlands, adding 30 jobs.

“Appian continues to grow and add new employees at the highest rate in company history, and having our business headquartered in Fairfax County has played a crucial role in this success,” said Matt Calkins, president and CEO of Appian. “When looking at where to work and live in the Metropolitan area, our prospective hires are drawn to the quality of life and economic stability that Fairfax County offers.”
