Twenty-three companies in Fairfax County receive more than $80 million in venture capital in 2009

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, Friday, March 26, 2010 -

Twenty-three Fairfax County-based companies received $81.26 million in venture capital investments in 2009, according to figures compiled by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and based on the PricewaterhouseCoopers/Venture Economics/National Venture Capital Association MoneyTree™ Survey.

Fairfax County deals represented more than 50 percent of the 38 venture capital deals made in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2009 and 21 percent of the deals made in the Washington region during the year, according to the MoneyTree ™ Survey. More than 30 venture capital firms and organizations have a presence in Fairfax County.

Fairfax County-based companies leading the way with the most venture capital investment in 2009 include Approva ($14 million), Rivulet Communications ($11.5 million) and Prematics ($10.8 million).

“The companies that received venture capital last year show the continuing strength of Fairfax County as the leading technology and business center in the Washington area and Virginia,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “The FCEDA has played a critical role in developing Fairfax County’s reputation as a technology center.”

The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program enhances the county's visibility as a location for entrepreneurs to start and build their businesses and seeks to increase Fairfax County's market share of venture capital funding.
