agent logic

Case Study: Agent Logic

When was your company established?
Agent Logic was founded in September 1999.

What is the origin of your company name?
Agent Logic’s name was derived to summarize how software should act on one’s behalf to solve problems logically and intelligently.  From day one, our mission has been to create user-directed software to monitor, detect, respond, and alert a user (or system) to everything from threats to opportunities in his or her world.  We’d like our customers to think of it as a personal assistant or “agent” doing work for them.

Who owns your company?
A privately held company, Agent Logic was co-founded by our Chief Executive Officer Michael Appelbaum and our Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Garvett.  Initial funding came from two local investors: In-Q-Tel and Walker Ventures.

What is your main business focus?
Agent Logic takes situational awareness to the next level while providing on-the-fly information enrichment, persistent analysis, and real-time alerting, for humans—not programmers.  With what analysts call Complex Event Processing (CEP) or Operational Intelligence, Agent Logic’s software detects complex information events—from RSS feeds, databases, sensors, web services, and other sources—automatically initiating responses like real-time alerts and process triggering.  On a user’s behalf, the software quickly identifies, analyzes, and manages opportunities or threats.  Solutions include financial threat analysis, geospatial tracking, command and control, investigative case management, and in general, analytic processes that require monitoring and correlation across multiple sources.

Who are your primary customers?
Agent Logic serves both the private and public sectors including FORTUNE 500 firms and U.S. national security interests.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
We provide alerts and a full solution for end users: business users, analysts, and knowledge workers.  Most companies focus on high-speed data filtering, analysis, and discovery using a set of complex developer tools found only in the IT organization.  Our products are for non-programmers—placing the power of CEP and operational intelligence into the users’ hands where— instead of waiting weeks or months for IT to fulfill requests—they benefit with a only a moment’s notice.

Where do you see your company in five years?
Agent Logic will seek to leverage its first-mover advantage and satisfied customers to sustain and grow its position as the leading provider of user-driven software for real-time operational intelligence.  We expect significant expansion of our national and international presence over the next few years.

How many employees do you have?
Agent Logic employs more than 45 people, all at its Fairfax County headquarters.

What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?
Agent Logic made the decision to locate its headquarters in Fairfax County because of the pool of talented and qualified workers in the areas of software engineering, information technology, and consulting, supported by several top-notch educational institutions.  Fairfax County also provides a convenient gateway to global markets. Our Tysons Corner location gives us easy access to both Washington Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan National Airport.

Where is your company located?
8603 Westwood Center Drive, 4th Floor, Vienna, VA 22182; 703-387-2400; www.agentlogic.com.
