More Information

Venture capital is funding provided to start-up companies in exchange for a percentage of ownership in the firms. Because of the strong local markets in telecommunications, software development, Internet services/security and managed healthcare, 30 venture capital firms including New Enterprise Associates, Blue Water Capital, Grotech Capital Group and Mid-Atlantic Venture Fund, to name a few, have established offices in the county. These firms provide equity capital and offer the management expertise necessary to accommodate the county's rapid business growth.

Many other funds, while headquartered elsewhere, acknowledge the value of investing in Fairfax County. Law firms, accounting firms and banks that specialize in serving the venture community also have a growing presence in the county.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority's FCEDA Capital Attraction Program enhances the county's visibility as a location for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses and seeks to increase Fairfax County's market share of venture capital funding. For more information, contact Rodney Lusk, Capital Attraction Manager.
