Women-Owned Small Business Symposium

New Year, New Opportunities:  A Symposium on Set-Aside Programs and Certifications for Women-Owned Businesses

February 23, 2011

Woman-owned small businesses (WOSB’s) are the fastest growing segment of the country’s business community, but they have not seen a proportionate increase in the number of federal contracts awarded. As a result, the federal government is about to open new opportunities for women-owned businesses through 8(m), the new federal Women-Owned Small Business preference contracting program.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority in partnership with the Community Business Partnership, the Women’s Business Center of Northern Virginia and the Women President’s Educational Organization will conduct "New Year, New Opportunities: A Symposium on Set Aside Programs and Certifications for Women-Owned Businesses."

Highlights of the event will include the results of the U.S. Bureau of the Census Survey of Women-Owned Businesses, an overview of the 8(m) program, a panel discussion on various business certifications, as well as a presentation on the Small, Women and Minority-Owned Business (SWaM) Certification program of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The symposium will be conducted at Capital One headquarters, 1680 Capital One Drive, McLean, Virginia 22102-3407. There is no cost to attend the symposium, however pre-registration is required.
