Workforce Training Programs and Employer Assistance

Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education

The Fairfax County Public Schools Adult and Community Education Program offers courses designed to bring small business owners and entrepreneurs up-to-speed on financing, marketing and managing a business. The program also offers customized work site training options for employers on topics such as English as a second language in the workplace, cultural diversity training, technology classes, business English, management skills, customer service and adult basic education. Apprenticeship-related instruction and distance education options also are available.

Northern Virginia Community College Workforce Development Division

The Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Workforce Development Division provides customized training in several areas of key importance to employers, including information technology, business management and consulting, health care services, the construction and building trades, English as a Second Language, and career planning and job placement. Classes can be held at the employer’s site, at one of NOVA’s campuses or online.

Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board and SkillSource Group

The Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board (NVWIB) and its nonprofit entity, The SkillSource Group, Inc., oversee One Stop SkillSource Centers and affiliate SkillSource sites throughout northern Virginia. The centers connect employers and job seekers with a variety of employment, education and training services available at the local, state and federal levels. SkillSource and its partners offer services to employers in the areas of recruitment and screening, employee development and retention, and consultative and planning services.

Virginia Employment Commission

The Virginia Employment Commission provides free services to employers, including posting of job vacancy announcements, employment pre-screening and skills-based matching to identify job candidates, labor market information, and clerical skill proficiency testing.

Virginia Jobs Investment Program

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP) provides services and funding to companies creating new jobs or experiencing technological change. VJIP reduces the human resource development costs of new and expanding companies that create basic employment in Virginia. Initiatives include the New Jobs Program, Small Business New Jobs Program and the Workforce Retraining Program.
