Fairfax County has 116 firms on Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing firms, more than one-third of D.C.-area total
Fairfax County, Virginia, August 20, 2019 – Whether measured by sheer numbers, revenue or industry sector, Fairfax County is the top location for the fastest-growing businesses in the Washington metropolitan area, as the latest Inc. 5000 list shows.
Fairfax County is home to 116 companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 list, which is 37 percent of the 315 companies on the list from the Washington region and more than double the number from any other Washington-area county or city. Fairfax County’s businesses also account for 40 percent of Virginia’s 288 businesses appearing on this year’s list.
Produced by Inc. Magazine, this annual guide puts a spotlight on one of the best indicators of American economic success by highlighting the fastest-growing privately held companies in the U.S.
“For one county or city to have a third of all the Inc. 5000 companies in the region, and 40 percent of the state total, illustrates that entrepreneurial business leaders value the highly educated workforce and quality of life of our location,” said Victor Hoskins, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “These companies are already generating $9 billion in economic activity for the region and our goal is to assist them and others in continuing their growth.”
Inc. ranked Urgent.ly, a Tysons-based transportation and logistics company, as the 12th fastest-growing company in the nation and the highest-ranked company in the Washington area. Urgent.ly is a digital on-demand roadside assistance platform that offers towing and other automobile-service help for all types of vehicles. Using location-based services, real-time data, AI and machine-to-machine communication, Urgent.ly’s platform is being used in North America, Europe and Asia.
In addition to Urgent.ly, seven other Fairfax County companies are in the top 500 of the Inc. list, including No. 109 B3 Group (Herndon); No. 129, Ridgeline International (Tysons); No. 143 Alpha Omega Integration (Tysons); No. 275 Take2 Consulting (Tysons); No. 424 E&M Technologies (Reston); No. 436 Assured Consulting Solutions (Reston); and No. 498 PBG Consulting (Tysons).
Fairfax County companies accounted for 73 percent ($9.25 billion) of the $12.68 billion in 2018 revenues for firms in the Washington area. Fairfax County’s most-represented industry sectors were government services (42 percent), IT systems development (14 percent), IT management (12 percent), business products and services (7 percent), and software (7 percent). These sectors account for 82 of the County’s 116 companies.
