Billion air deal: Tysons-based DynCorp International won a 1.43 billion contract from U.S. Customs and Border Protection to provide maintenance and logistics support for the agency’s fleet of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. The potential 10-year deal means DynCorp will support aircraft working in 34 locations in the Western Hemisphere to deter smuggling and other missions. Darwin McDaniel of GovConWire notes that CBP uses 211 aircraft.vVisionaries: A fund managed by investment bank Goldman Sachs will pay $2.7 billion for Tysons-based Capital Vision Services, which owns the MyEyeDr.comoptometry-services provider. Capital Vision expects to manage 575 optometry practices in 18 states by the end of the year, writes Katishi Maake of the Washington Business Journal.

It’s all Tru: TruShield Security Solutions of Reston, a provider of cybersecurity monitoring, risk management and response services, has been acquired and merged with two other firms to form a new Phoenix, Ariz.-based company known as Avertium. Growth equity firm Sunstone Partners merged TruShield with Terra Verde Security of Phoenix and Sword & Shield Enterprise Security of Knoxville, Tenn., to form a company with more than 1,000 customers. According to Katishi Maake of the Washington Business Journal, Avertium’s Reston location, which has about 50 employees, will concentrate on business development and sales.

Angling for similarity: The iconic angles of Comstock’s office building at Reston Station could be echoed in a second structure across the Dulles Toll Road. Comstock retained architect Helmut Jahn to design the second tower near the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station. Daniel J. Sernovitz, in a story for Washington Business Journal subscribers, says similar angles will create a bookend effect, but the companion building is likely to be more parallelogram than trapezoid.

Let it rip: BAE Systems acquired key assets of Plymouth, Mass.-based Riptide Autonomous Solutions, a developer of unmanned underwater vehicles. According to the release picked up by Potomac Tech Wire, the acquisition will add a line of small UUVs that are more affordable, efficient and flexible than larger counterparts while still offering depth, range, endurance and speed.

Charter member: Trustar Bank, with plans to open its headquarters and first branch location on Walker Road in Great Falls, received a state banking charter by the Virginia Corporation Commission. Andy Medici of the Washington Business Journal writes that Trustar, with more than $50 million in new funding, also signed a letter of intent for a second branch, thjis one in Reston. It’s the first new bank since 2008 to receive approval from the state.

More occupied Spaces: Spaces, a coworking company, is preparing to open a two-floor, 50,000-square-foot facility at The Boro in Tysons, according to a Meridian Group announcement reported by Michael Neibauer of the Washington Business Journal. Spaces also operates in Reston.

Special Effects: As part of its 100th birthday celebration, Tysons-based Hilton is launching the Hilton Effect Foundation to become its primary channel for worldwide philanthropy. Vandana Sinha of the Washington Business Journalreports that the foundation will target nonprofits that are working to improve travel destinations, create higher-skilled jobs, increase youth outreach, and help communities hurt by water scarcity and natural disasters. Hilton revealed recipients of the foundation’s first 15 grants in locations including Louisiana, Hawaii, India, South Africa and Vietnam.

Class dismissed: The Merrifield-based American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council named Leidos the overall winner at its Igniting Innovation Conference for its opioid-detection platform. Jane Edwards also reported for ExecutiveBiz that SAIC, with its Pilot Training Next program, joined Leidos among Dynamite Award winners. ACT-IAC also announced that 32 participants completed its 15th Voyagers leadership-development training program. Potomac Tech Wire picked up a release listing the graduates (many with Fairfax County connections) from ACT-IAC’s nine-month program.

New collaboration: Matthew Nelson of ExecutiveBiz reports that Hitachi Vantara partnered with Tysons-based immixGroup and will offer hardware, software and data services to the public sector. Hitachi Vantara said the partnership will also enable the government to procure IT products and use the company’s training and maintenance services.

More flexing: McLean-based GovFlex.com, developer of an e-commerce platform that matches government agencies and contractors with independent experts for short-term projects, signed a collaborative agreement with Washington, D.C.-based Senior Executives Association. According to the releasecited by Potomac Tech Wire, the deal gives GovFlex users exclusive access to 12,000 federal Senior Executive Service leaders and experts.

• Under a three-year, $30 million contract, a joint venture between Dewberryand Jacobs Engineering will provide on-call design services for federally funded infrastructure improvement projects in New York City. ExecutiveBiz
