The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) Procurement Academy returns November 13 with a session that will highlight opportunities in government contracting for next-generation technology used by law-enforcement agencies, solutions for securing critical infrastructure, and cooperation between the United States and Israel on a range of technology-related projects.

The FCEDA is partnering with the Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation and 22^nd Century Technologies for the forum, which will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 1960 Chain Bridge Road, Tysons, Virginia.

The session will feature expert speakers and panelists from industry, government agencies and technology companies who will address issues and procurement opportunities in public safety, homeland security, critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, intelligence and law enforcement. The BIRD Foundation, a US-Israel governmental funded organization, will present its unique business funding model for project development and commercialization as well as matchmaking services for U.S. and Israeli companies.

The FCEDA’s Procurement Academy is a series of comprehensive workshops focused on various aspects of the procurement process from start to finish. The workshops emphasize practical strategies for success and provide the essential elements needed to function effectively in today’s procurement arena.  The November 13 forum kicks off a workshop series that will include three sessions in 2020.

Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to hear executives with U.S. and Israeli companies discuss how they are confronting the challenges and innovations in technology. Following the event, there will be a networking lunch and an opportunity for attendees to meet one-on-one with other businesses.

 The Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation works to encourage and facilitate cooperation between U.S. and Israeli companies in a wide range of technology sectors and offers funding to selected projects. The BIRD Foundation supports projects without receiving any equity or intellectual property rights in the participating companies or in the projects, themselves.

BIRD funding is repaid as royalties from sales of products that were commercialized as a result of BIRD support. The Foundation provides funding of up to 50 percent of a project’s budget, beginning with R&D and ending with the initial stages of sales and marketing. The Foundation shares the risk and does not require repayment if the project fails to reach the sales stage.
