Social Media and Forum Usage Policy

Fairfax County Economic Development Authority is pleased to provide constituents and businesses with several online communities in which to hold constructive discussions, solicit advice or input, and provide support to peers. Participation in such communities is a privilege, not a right, and is reserved for members who conduct themselves in a professional and responsible manner.

The purpose of our social communities is to promote economic development and Fairfax County. While we encourage open discussion, as page administrators we retain the right to remove any content that is not consistent with Fairfax County Economic Development Authority's mission or core values and does not support the goals outlined above. We also abide by the Facebook Community standard policy & Fairfax County social media usage policy.

To make Fairfax County Economic Development Authority’s social media sites the best possible environment, we invite members and non-members to participate in our groups and ask that everyone follow a few simple guidelines. We'll do our part to ensure the FairfaxEDA’s social media sites remain a constructive and supportive place but we need everyone's help. This policy is subject to amendment or modification at any time.

The following actions may result in removal from our communities. The severity of a violation, as determined in the sole discretion of the administrators, will determine whether a warning is issued first:

Spam

Please don't spam. What is spam? Spam is posting the same message repeatedly across the network, writing the same post or comment over and over again or sending the same message to multiple members. If you are reported or deemed to be a spammer, you may be banned from the FairfaxEDA social communities.

Insults and Harassment

Respectfully disagreeing with someone, including the Fairfax EDA, in a constructive, respectful, well-reasoned manner is okay. However, it is not appropriate to use the FairfaxEDA’s communities as an outlet for your anger or frustration. Unconstructive, toxic, profane, or generally abusive comments will lead to removal from our communities.

  • Harassment of businesses, & constituent or staff

  • Continued posting of repetitive content

  • Inflammatory or vulgar content/language or use of symbols to represent vulgar language

  • Personal attacks or abusive behavior that targets or disparage any ethnic, racial, age, or religious group, gender, sexual orientation, or disability status

  • Repeated instances of comments not relevant to original posts

  • Comments or images that are slanderous, libelous, fraudulent, misleading, or unlawful

  • Threatening comments or images, whether physical or not, against individuals and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority

  • Posting of personal information of yourself, another constituent, business or staff. Personal information includes but is not limited to; contact information, personal account information, or full names of staff members with whom you have spoken “offline.”

  • Solicitation, spamming, or link baiting

General Guidelines

  • By participating in our social communities, you agree to abide by these policies and guidelines

  • Participants must contribute to the community in a constructive fashion; exhibiting patience, understanding, tolerance and respect

  • Posts older than 30 days may be removed

FCEDA Privacy Policy

We hold your personal data, safe and secure for a variety of business purposes.

This policy sets out how we seek to protect your personal data and ensure that our marketing and communications team understand the rules governing the use of personal data to which they have access in the course of their work.

We collect data for business purposes, including the following:

  • Marketing and communication purposes to keep you informed about the updates happening in the Fairfax County / northern Virginia / mid-Atlantic region regarding economic development and business news.

Sensitive personal data

  • We do not hold any personal data about you relating to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or similar beliefs, trade union membership (or non-membership), physical or mental health or condition, criminal offenses, or related proceedings.

Our procedures

The processing of all data must be:

  • Necessary to deliver our services

  • In our legitimate interests and not unduly prejudice of your privacy

GDPR provisions

Where not specified previously in this policy, the following provisions will be in effect on or before May 25, 2018, for collection of names and e-mail addresses of those living in the European Union and covered by the General Data Protection Regulation.

Being transparent to individuals on our marketing and communications databases is important for our organization. The following are details on how we collect data and what we will do with it.

  • Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA)

How is it collected

  • Website sign-up forms and Fairfax County E-Bird subscription form

Why is it being collected

  • Communication with audiences who are interested in updates from Fairfax County / northern Virginia / mid-Atlantic region regarding economic development and business news

How will it be used

  • For newsletter communications via email

Who will it be shared with

  • FCEDA staff

  • We use the information solely for the FCEDA. We do not share it with third parties, or to sell products or services. 

Retention period

  • Indefinitely

Consent

  • If you are in the European Union, the data that we collect is subject to active consent by the data subject (you). This consent can be revoked at any time by you. 

Right to be forgotten

  • You may request that any information held on you is deleted or removed, and any third parties who process or use that data must also comply with the request. An erasure request can only be refused if an exemption applies.
