Most companies in IT fields; seven are foreign-based

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

During the first quarter of 2014, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) provided services and resources to 32 businesses that are adding almost 700 jobs in Fairfax County. Most of these businesses are in the information technology and professional services sectors, and seven are foreign-based firms using a Fairfax County location to expand in North America.

“Fairfax County continues to add jobs in its core strengths of IT and professional services, building economic security for county residents and adding to the commercial tax base that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors uses to fund public services," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. "All of these companies represent a tremendous boost to the county economy.”

One of the most prominent announcements came from ServiceSource, a nonprofit that finds employment for individuals with disabilities by doing contract work for government and commercial customers. It is adding 120 jobs to the county economy.

"We are proud to be able to continue to grow and fulfill our mission of creating opportunities for a population that is largely under-employed – individuals with disabilities,” said Janet Samuelson, president and CEO of ServiceSource. “Being headquartered in Fairfax County helps us to not only fulfill our mission through directly hiring people, but also by utilizing a rich network of community employers to place individuals in jobs outside of ServiceSource."

Other businesses that are creating jobs in Fairfax County:

  • TCoombs & Associates, LLC, a technology services company, adding 70 jobs;
  • NRL Federal Credit Union, adding 65 jobs; and,
  • Spacenet, an Israel-based firm providing network and technology solutions, adding seven jobs.

A complete list of the 32 companies is below.

Time magazine called Fairfax County “one of the great economic success stories of our time.” Business growth and innovation helps Fairfax County fund the nation’s top-rated school system and other public services that contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to global markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a vibrant investment capital community and a highly skilled, well-educated workforce.

The award-winning Fairfax County Economic Development Authority promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center.
