Fairfax County, Virginia — SMWiFairfax, the Social Media Week conference being presented by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) on September 14, has added more leaders in communications and marketing to an already-impressive roster of panelists for the event that will be held at Capital One headquarters in Tysons Corner.

Just announced as panelists are Lauren Ober, host of “The Big Listen” podcast and broadcast from WAMU and NPR; Shannon Jones, senior director of marketing, Capital One; Aries Keck, social media team lead for NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center; Dana Stirk, digital marketing director at Booz Allen Hamilton; Patricia A. Davis-Muffett, senior leader, global sector marketing at Amazon Web Services; and Chuck Ghoorah, co-founder and president of worldwide sales and marketing for Cvent.

Presented by the FCEDA in conjunction with Social Media Week Independent, SMWiFairfax will yield more than debate about the best ideas, innovations and the ways social media and technology are changing business, society and culture around the globe.

The compelling discussion will be accompanied by a hands-on experience thanks to exhibiting companies. Among those displaying the latest in digital media and artificial intelligence will be:

  • Akyumen Technologies will display its state-of-the-art niche products and service platform designed to open the door to innovation and advance access to global entertainment, education and telemedicine.
  • Big Parser, utilizing the latest Amazon technology, will bring "Ask Fairfax," a device that employs artificial intelligence to answer questions about Fairfax County and SMWi.
  • Notion Theory will host a virtual reality arcade, enabling participants to experience the future of education, training, media and marketing and leave passionately optimistic about the future.
  • T.A.G. Labs will provide an arcade experience, featuring four retro and modern day video games. In addition T.A.G. will showcase its STEM education work in the community.

Ober, whose “Big Listen” is a podcast about podcasts, will join keynote speaker Brian Fanzo for the “Power of Podcasting” panel discussion, one of four panel discussions scheduled. Keck joins the panel “New Rules of Citizen Engagement,” which will be moderated by Christopher Dorobek of GovLoop’s DorobekINSIDER.

Jones, Stirk, Davis-Muffett and Ghoorah will all participate in the “The Next Big Thing,” a panel discussion of what the future holds in social media. The session will be moderated by Anthony Shop, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Social Driver.

The day’s final panel, “Politics in 140 Characters or Less,” just might just become the liveliest. Moderating an all-star panel of journalists will be Judy Kurtz, columnist for The Hill newspaper.

QBurst, Capital One, DC Inno, InsideNoVa, WeWork, Potomac Tech Wire and SwingSpace are sponsors of the conference.
