Fairfax County, Virginia—Dana Kauffman, a former Fairfax County supervisor and a longtime official at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), has been appointed to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) Commission. He replaces Esther Lee, who joined the administration of new Gov. Ralph Northam as secretary of commerce and trade.

The Commission is a seven-member body that oversees the work of the FCEDA. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appoints commissioners.

“Dana brings to our governing body a deep background in the community and in business-related issues such as workforce development that will be tremendously valuable as we continue to build a dynamic, diversified economy for Fairfax County,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA.

Kauffman has served as director of college government affairs and community relations at NOVA since 2008. Among other responsibilities, he works with state and local government leadership in the funding, location and planning of capital projects and the support of major workforce initiatives. He has served on the college’s Educational Foundation, and he represents NOVA on the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Commission.

Between 1995 and 2007 Kauffman was a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for the Lee District in southeastern Fairfax County. As a county supervisor, he served on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) board of directors, the operations board of the Virginia Railway Express and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. He also chaired all three bodies.

Before taking elected office, Kauffman was vice president of operations for a regional residential and commercial property management company, and he served as a member of the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority Commission.

Kauffman holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from George Mason University in public administration. Dana and his wife Kathy live in the Alexandria part of Fairfax County.
