Fairfax County E-Bird for Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Fortunate location: Fairfax County is home to 10 firms on the Fortune 500 for the first time since 2014. Freddie Mac (40), General Dynamics (92) and Capital One (98) all rank in the top 100. DXC Technology was the biggest mover on the local list, vaulting from No.374 to No.122. Beacon Roofing Supply jumped 105 places to debut at No.464. Fairfax County is home to 10 of the 21 Virginia companies on the list, and you can find other interesting facts behind the numbers in this FCEDA release.

Bigger Mac: Speaking of Freddie Mac, it is expanding its Tysons presence. Bisnow’s Jon Banister reports that it will lease Rubenstein Partners’ Centerstone, a six-story building at 1550 Westbranch Drive. Freddie owns properties at 8100 Jones Branch Drive and 1551 Park Run Drive in Tysons.

RSVP for employment: Cvent, a provider of meetings, events and hospitality technology, said it plans to add nearly 1,000 new employees by the end of this year, many of them at its Tysons headquarters. The company added about 1,000 employees in 2018 bringing its worldwide workforce to more than 4,000. According to a release picked up by multiple media outlets, Cvent currently has about 600 open positions at 20 locations.

Fore sale: Reston National Golf Course has been sold to Baltimore-based developers Weller Development and War Horse Cities. The new owners say they have no immediate plans to develop the 168-acre property near Reston Town Center and have retained one of the sellers, Billy Casper Golf, to manage the facility. Nayling it: Naylor Association Solutions, a Tysons-based provider of association management software and technology services to trade and professional associations, bought Raleigh, N.C.-based TechMedia LLC. Founded in 2001, TechMedia is the producer of the Digital Summit series, which draws more than 20,000 digital marketers through 20 conferences annually. According to a release picked up by citybizlist, Naylor expects the move to expand and diversify its event portfolio and its communications and management services.

Path to investment: The Inova Personalized Health Accelerator invested an unspecified amount in Deciphex, a Dublin, Ireland-based company developing digital pathology applications. According to a release picked up by the Potomac Tech Wire, the company’s technology is designed to help pathologists focus on critical content of images.

Salute to veterans: Kimberly Hayes of The Ambit Group in Tysons, Francis Hoang of FH&H law in Tysons, Mark Rockefeller of StreetShares Inc. in Reston and Frank Tucker of MicroHealth LLC in Tysons will be among the recipients of Washington Business Journal’s first Veterans in Business Awards. Ceremonies will take place June 27 to honor Greater Washington military veterans and veteran-owned companies that help veterans in the workplace and beyond.

Rewarding growth: Amyx (Reston), Xator Corp. (Reston), Alarm.com (Tysons), Razor’s Edge (Reston), Perspecta (Chantilly) and SOS International (Reston) were among Corporate Growth Award recipients from ACG National Capital, an association for D.C. area professionals in middle-market growth, corporate development and M&A. Early-stage surge: The Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) announced a new conference series called SURGE aimed at expanding its TechBUZZ program. Through SURGE, MAVA will invite up to 50 early-stage companies to participate in closed-door round tables with corporate product team members, investors, company execs, and university and industry researchers.   • DynCorp International won a potential eight-year, $2.45 billion contract to provide aircraft and ground support, aircraft modifications, equipment maintenance and logistical for the Army’s East Region. citybizlist
  • General Dynamics received a potential $497 million contract modification for industrial base development and expansion initiatives to support the Navy’s Columbia, Ford and Virginia-class submarines. GovConWire
