FCEDA staff member contributes to industry-federal government collaboration on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Playbook

January 24, 2020 – Tysons, VA.  – As part of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working Group for the Fairfax County-based American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC), John Gustavo Blair, Emerging Technologies Business Investment Manager at the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), was a contributing writer of the AI Playbook for the U.S. Federal Government, released at a government and industry forum on January 22, 2020.

“Fairfax County is the leading county in the United States for federal contracting dollars with our companies receiving over $27.7 billion in contracts in FY 2019. I am proud to be part of the AI Working Group as it develops tools like the AI Playbook for the many companies in the county that deliver AI products and services to the federal government,” stated John Gustavo Blair.

The AI Playbook is a resource for both new and advanced AI practitioners in the federal government serving as a guide for the use of artificial intelligence to address challenges faced by agencies/departments. With tools such as an assessment questionnaire with weighted responses to help answer “Do I need AI?,” and detailed step-by-step processes that take the reader through integrating an AI solution into existing systems, the AI Playbook goes over the basics, but also is a guide for best practices in AI implementation in the federal government.

Using the AI Playbook, industry partners and other governmental organizations can understand how AI is currently being implemented in the federal government. This knowledge will surely lead to more effective engagements for government contractors and will inform best practices among non-federal governmental entities.

Addressing key priorities of the federal government, the AI Playbook directly supports the President’s Management Agenda (PMA), Cross Agency Priority (CAP) Goal 6 – Shifting from Low-Value to High-Value Work.  The Playbook follows the General Service Administration’s Office of Government-wide Policy Modernization and Migration Management (M3) framework used for Shared Services.

AI is a powerful emerging technology that has far reaching benefits for the federal government including detecting diseases earlier, speeding up disaster recovery, and more. The AI Playbook enables government contractors and the federal government to use AI together to enhance government capabilities to save time, cut waste and improve quality of service in impactful ways that can touch the lives of millions of Americans.
