Fairfax County, Virginia — Silicon Valley-based cybersecurity company FireEye announced this week that it would expand its presence in Northern Virginia, in part with development of an operations center in the Reston area of Fairfax County. CEO Kevin Mandia made it clear that the availability of talent was a critical asset that led to the decision to expand in Reston.

“We continue to hire the best of the best as we work to achieve this mission every day, and our growing team of tech security experts located in the Dulles Tech Corridor is an important part of everything that we do,” Mandia said. “Investing in our people and technology makes relentlessly protecting our customers from the impact and consequences of cyber attacks possible.”

Hosting the company’s largest security operation center, the state-of-the-art building will house more than 300 employees to start, while providing room for future expansion needs. The company said that the new Reston facility will be the epicenter of FireEye Managed Defense operations addition to housing a significant number of threat intelligence and Mandiant consulting experts.

“Fairfax County and the Dulles Tech Corridor have long been attractive locations for those who want to start or accelerate their careers in technology, and we are heartened to see that FireEye will expand here knowing it can get the skilled cybersecurity workforce it needs,” said Catherine W. Riley, interim president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.

The FireEye announcement comes the same week that Google confirmed it will expand in Reston. Amazon announced last November that it will locate a second headquarters elsewhere in Northern Virginia. The Commonwealth of Virginia is increasing its tech-talent pipeline programs to build the workforce that technology companies need to grow in the state.
